Clay Meditation

"We hold a treasure, not made of gold, in earthen vessels, wealth untold."

---Lyrics by John Foley

During the clay meditation, participants are each
given a ball of clay and guided through the process of making a clay vessel. Through the steps of opening, pressing, thinning, and shaping their clay, they are able to experience what it is like to create a form. As they pinch the pot into shape they can experience what it is to be God, the Shaper, and also to experience being the pottery, the receiver of form.  After a hands-on process, participants are encouraged to write about and share their experience, feelings and creative ideas received during the time in meditation.

Renee Beckham spent 24 years in military service, specializing in clinical laboratory operations and management.  After this service, Renee began her quest to rediscover and develop her creative self.  In doing so she discovered art as a spiritual path.  Her experience with clay has helped her ease into retirement, to discover the delight in the ordinary (clay), and to be still and listen.  Renee has led clay meditation for over a hundred people with positive individual growth experiences shared every time.
