Jews, Christians & Muslims Read Scriptures Together

3 week series

December 3, 10, & 17, 2008

Christmas is greatly enriched by realizing that it is one version of an old, old story. Virgin births and traveling magi are ancient themes of a universal song we no longer remember, but cannot quite forget. Astrologers and animals are not in the story by accident. They poetically reveal our unity with all creation. And the “innocent” little song Mary sang about the birth of her son was not so little and not so innocent. It was a call to revolution on behalf of the wretched of the earth. Jesus would advocate for a world beyond nations or religions or economic systems. The symbols of Christmas are a call to the kind of love that might actually save our world.
